The service in the Port Admiral Hotel involves going up to the bar to order, or scanning the QR code on the table. During the day there is no service in the upstairs areas, so you will have to go downstairs to order. There will be signage indicating the current service situation in the area.
If there is a type of food you don’t like, or are allergic to, you can use the Foodini QR code to see what menu items are safe to order.
The Vines (outside seating area) and entrance
There are two seating options in this area. You can sit at a table with an umbrella for shade, or in an enclosed area with full shade cover.
If you sit in the outside area, you will hear the sounds of cars from the road. It may be windy in this area, but less than in the balcony area.
People (and dogs) might walk across the footpath near your table.
You may hear the sound of your chair scraping across the hard flooring.
The Admiral Bar (main bar)
The Admiral Bar is a high sensory area.
The kitchen is exposed, so you will see, smell and hear the food being prepared in the kitchen.
You can hear the sounds of plates and cups clattering at the bar and in the kitchen.
There is natural light from the windows and small hanging overhead lights.
The Galley
The Galley is in the same room as the kitchen, so you will hear and smell food being prepared. This is a high sensory space.
You may hear talking from the main bar area.
There is natural light from the windows, and overhead fluorescent lights.
There is the option of stools, hard chairs at tables, and chairs without backs at tables.
The Bottle Shop
There is music playing from speakers at opposite ends of the room.
There is a choice of soft couches, square ottomans, hard chairs at a table and chairs with padding at a table.
There is light from the window, overhead lights pointing away (so won’t be in your eyes) and a bulb light.
The sounds from the road are not very loud. This room is next to the toilets so people might walk past.
You may hear the phone ring in the main bar area.
There is a TV which may be on, but not always.
Toilets
There are two very bright overhead lights in the toilet.
You may be able to hear the sound of the fan.
There are only paper towels, so you will not have to hear a hand dryer.
Table 25
Table 25 is next to the staircase. If you sit here, you may be able to hear:
- Music from upstairs
- Talking from the main bar
- The sound of cars outside at a moderate level
There may be people walking past to go up the stairs.
The floor is wooden so you may hear the chair scraping and footsteps.
There is natural light from the window and also light from a lamp.
You can sit on velvety chairs or ottomans.
Upstairs hallway
As you walk upstairs, into the hallway, you will notice a large skylight.
There is also light from fluorescent overhead lights in the hallway.
In the hallway you may hear a machine buzzing from the kitchen.
No noise from downstairs or the road is noticeable.
There is a choice of soft chairs and hard stools.
The Calton Room and Sanders Room
No noise from downstairs or the road is noticeable when inside.
There is light from fluorescent overhead lights and windows.
Balcony
On the balcony, you will hear the sounds of the busy road.
It can be quite windy on the balcony. You may hear the sounds of trees scraping on the roof.
There is entirely natural light during the day. At night, there are overhead lights.
There is an outside heater for when it is cold.
There is a choice of soft couches, wooden picnic tables and tables with hard chairs.
There is usually no music on the balcony.
Beer Garden
In the beer garden, you may hear a machine softly buzzing.
There is no music playing.
The sound from the road is more quiet than in the Vines.
There are picnic tables, tables with hard chairs, and stools against the wall.
